Oh, I'll be first!! I like making gifts because it feels as if you are giving a part of yourself to the receiver. I think that is why people love hand made items so much. You've got a wonderful giveaway!! Welcome to the group....

This looks like fun - please enter me.

Our son and daughter-in-law live in West Virginia - we loved it when we visited there.

Congrats on making all the charity quilts - what a great endeavor.

I love making Christmas gifts because it takes time to think of what would be a great gift- not rushing to the store and buying "something" of course it's not always frugal to make vs buy but it's so much more fun.
I love that bookcase quilt- I want to make one for my mom embroidering her fav book titles on the spines.
I entered you in my give away thanks for stopping by

Wow something you made, magazine, quilting--aren't you ultra great! For Christmas last year--I found out I enjoyed making purses & aprons---why? I used charm packs (or one's I'd swapped) and GOT THEM DONE as in finished! That was the best feeling (and they all loved & used their gifts) Angie

Oh, wow! Please count me in. I like making gifts because to me it means so much more. Maybe not to the receiver (as I have had many people frown upon my handmade gifts and never even use them), but as I am making it, from start to finish, I am thinking of that person with smile. To get a gift made by someone means that WWWWAAAYYYY more thought, time, energy and care was put into the gift. I am not sure I am making too many gifts this Christmas though. Having a rough time right now with my mental health.

I love making gifts because I love to receive a homemade gift. I make lots of quilted postcards for friends and family for birthday cards and they are always appreciated.

Quilting Arts is one of my favorite subscriptions. It is a great publication. Thanks for participating in the Giveaway.

I love making gifts for family and friends because I enjoy seeing their surprise and genuine pleasure at receiving the gifts I make. For Christmas I'm making several knitted items. I'm quilting two wall hangings now, but they will be gifts before Christmas.

I love making things for people. Its more personal than buying just anything. I only wish someone in my family were crafty, because I would love to receive hand made gifts!

Hand made is always best in my opinion. It is from the heart. Anyone can buy something, but a gift of the hands is priceless.

I wanna play!!! I just hosted a giveaway or else I'd jump in, too. I'll probably participate in her next one.

I love to make gifts for people, it seems so much more personal than purchasing something. In fact, I enjoy giving my quilts away so much that I don't even own a quilt of my own! My kids each have one and that's it!!! That is all of the quilts in our house ~ I keep giving them all away! But that's gonna change soon ~ its gettin' cold and I want a couch quilt this year! :)

WOW - seriously, WOW, what incredible prizes! Do you get a prize for the best prizes? (Did I say, WOW?)

Your bookcase quilt brought back memories. My very first swap, back before I had a clue about anything, was book blocks - it was an AOL quilt group swap. Gosh, must have been almost 15 years ago!

I made my blocks up into a triptych and hung them over my fireplace. Then we moved, never got another fireplace, and the poor quilts just sit in the cedar chest.

Maybe my fall project is to find a nice place to hang them before the holidays.

I'm making quilts for my two grandchildren, a quilted tote/duffel bag for my daughter, and a "slug-bug" quilt for my son-in-law. (Yikes, I'd better get going!)

WOW! What a give-away! I do love giving home-made gifts. It's like giving a piece of yourself. I am making three tote bags (for girlfriends).

Great question! I love making presents for any holiday/birthday because there is only so much that I make that I can keep for myself! :) And I like knowing that when I give things to my niece and nephews that they think of me when they use whatever I make them!

Ly + Alan said...

I love making homemade gifts, this year I am into making homemade journals, or book bags - it's fun to be creative and to think that the people who you make it for think of you whenever they use it.

I love love your giveaway - especially that pattern for that library quilt. (lyannab@gmail.com)

I enjoy making gifts because they can be tailored to the specific likes of the recipient. They are also one of a kind and made with love.

Terri S said...

I like to make gifts because handmade gifts are so much more personal, with the materials chosen with each recipients tastes in mind. This Christmas I'm making an apron with matching potholders and patchwork dishcloths for my aunt, a lap quilt and matching totebag for my sister, a picnic quilt and matching napkins for my daughter-in-law, and some placemats and matching napkins for my soon to be daughter-in-law.

I think the gifts we make for others are more meaningful. I am making a wee play charm quilt for my grandkids. Also some other little goodies. They live in England with their parents. My son is in the Air Force. They love getting handmade gifts. They love to get mail. The bookcase quilt is awesome. I have never seen it before. Please count me in!!

I love making gifts for my family. Anyone can buy you something, but the gifts you make come from the heart, not the pocketbook.
I am planning on making my sister a quilt with blocks from my friends on HGTV quilting forum. We are making a Bad Sue or Sam quilt. They are just funny ones, like we have one of Sunbonnet Sue as a poledancer! Look at my blog if you want to see some of the pics. My blog is tismeisme.

I think the true gift is when you give of yourself. So I try to make something for each member of my family at Christmas. Some years, not every one gets something but it does balance out. My son in law's yearly gift is a batch of home made chili for the freezer.

Hey ... I'm Lindsay ! said...

I love making gifts, because it gives me great pleasure to see something I've made put a smile on someone else's face! I take part in charity blocks, organized a quilt gift for a young lady with leukemia (actually it turned out to be 2 quilts), and I make quilts for elderly people in my church. People who don't sew or quilt are so appreciative of the time and love you put into a project ... I think that's what I like the most ... that they can see the love, and many times prayers, that are put into a gift. And I must REALLY like doing it, because out of all the sewing and lap quilts I've made, I've only kept 1 table topper and 1 summer quilt ... I usually make things for others before myself :-)

Linda said...

I like making gifts as I love to match up what I am making with the fabric that I think fits the persons personality! I am making my middle daughter a music note quilt with curtains, my oldest daughter wolf quilt with curtains, and my parents a leaf/foliage golden anniversary quilt all before Christmas eve! LOL
Thank you for participating in the Fall giveaway!
