Woman's Day and Quilt Decor

Check out the latest issue (Oct. 17) of Woman's Day magazine .... Make Room for Quilts page 72.

Article starts out with "remember the quilt you never finished" or "one that's not quite perfect" use them around the house. Yes I know this is nothing new but come on It's Quilts ... we love reading about quilts.

Christmas Tree Skirt

I've been working for a week or so on a Christmas Tree Skirt for DD#2 and family.

CIMG0289

It's 60" wide, I used felt from Joann's, some wool, some flannel and other goodies. Only the snow is stitched by machine ... all other pieces I hand stitched. Snowpeople are made of batting. A very long time ago I remember seeing the snowpeople in a book but all the other pieces are my own. It's true I'm no artist.

As I said I hand stitched all the pieces ... I was inspired by this BLOG, of course, she uses the real thing instead of felt. I do love her work.

Skype-ing Christmas

Thank you SKYPE. We were able to have Christmas with M&G via Skype.

CIMG7853

All it takes is a $20.00 camera (Hue Webcam), a computer/laptop and the Skype FREE download.

So we got to see them open their special surprise gifts and more. Plus they got to see us open their gifts. It was so much fun.

Long Arm Meeting

This month's meeting was "How Would You Quilt This" . Here's just a few of the many quilts shown ..... lots of eye candy.

Some Show'n'Tell

We meet in Zanesville, Ohio at A Touch of Thread, thanks Martha and Doug. If you need supplies give Martha and Doug as call.
DECEMBER Meeting: Catered lunch and bring your Christmas item to share (quilt, wall hanging, table runner and etc).

Fish Quilt for Charity

A strippy fish quilt. Again, thanks Mary for the FREE Pattern.

Quilted with the Ebb & Flow pantograph by Lorien Quilting. Yes, that's fleece for the backing.

It will be donated to a local charity.

Welcome Baby Girl

A couple we know have just become grandparents for the first time ....... a lovely baby girl.

I made her an I SPY quilt (of course). I SPY's are so much fun to make.

Quilted on my Nolting PRO longarm with Daisies Galore pantograph. Quilt measures 41 x 46. The I SPY blocks finish at 4", sashing/cornerstones finish at 1", border is 4.5".

I did the off-center 4 patch for the backing ... thank you MARY for the FREE pattern.

About 4yrs ago I was in an I Spy swap and probably received 300+ squares back ... I personally sent in 32 different fabrics. So I can make lots of I SPY quilts. Out of the swap to date I've made 8 quilts and gave a set away to someone for their quilt. It was a fun swap.

2008 Ripley Quilt Show

Saturday a quilter friend (Bonnie) and I took in a small quilt show. This group, Jackson County Creative Quilters Guild, has a show every year.

Yes, I took photos of all the quilts. This guild has a host of hand quilters. In fact, of all the quilts in the Show only a few were machine quilted. Fabulous work.

This quilt won 1st Place in the Machine Quilting Category.

This quilt took 1st Place in the Hand Quilting Category.

AND this one took Viewer's Choice ....... it was fabulous. She told me it took her several years to complete. Each embroidery stitch was perfect and the hand quilting was unbelievable. It is a treasure for sure. I'm sorry the photo doesn't show the embroidery thread colors ... they were very vivid.

Now all the other quilt photos are posted here. I hope you'll take a few minutes to enjoy the slide show.

Thanks for visiting.

Quilt Studio Mess

Well I'm just sick ... we ran out to WalMart Wednesday evening to help the Easter Bunny with his shopping for the GC. When we got home our back yard and side yard was flooded. AND so is half of my quilting studio wet. No real depth of water but the commercial carpet is soaked about 14 ft into the room. What a mess, my poor quilt studio. None of my machines nor Prince Charming were harmed.

I had a pedicure scheduled this morning (Thursday) ... was going to cancel but figured I might as well cheer myself up. Then had my hair cut. DH came home at lunchtime to continuing sucking and place more fans. Not too much of my stuff got too wet. If I had been putting my goodies away when purchased I wouldn't be in this big mess. All my machines are ok .. just got the bottoms of their feet cleaned. LOL

Going to relax .......

Project Linus

I'm ready for the Project Linus meeting today ..... I'm happy to report I have 8 quilts (various sizes) to donate today. I even have their required label attached ... oops I just realized I have to measure and attach the size of each quilt. See the 2 light blue quilts ... that's Sponge Bob fabric with fleece backing ... they are so cuddly.

Cell Phone and/or Camera Bag

I had to drop everything this week to make these cute (I think they are) bags for my GD's. Of course, they went to School and friends just had to have one too. Bag production is over ......

This little bag I made for myself, lined with fleece started the whole thing. It holds my cell phone because I could never find it in my purse. It doesn't have a closure as I sit it inside of a zippered pocket in my purse.

The girls were thrilled. In fact, they came over and spent quite some time looking through my fabric stash for just the right fabrics. Then they had to look through my fleece scraps again for just the right one. First they only wanted them for their cell phones until they discovered that their digital camera fit too. Of course, they each had to have two (2) bags.

No I don't have a pattern .... I just winged it. Although awhile back a nice blogger (Lisa) sent me instructions which I kind of used. The bags are approximately 6 inches long by 3.75 inches wide. The cuff is a bias strip . Each bag is lined with fleece. I used an elastic hair band for the closure with a button.

By the way the buttons are from my GD's Great-Grandmother Margaret's button box (thanks Aunt Mary Ruth).

I did find a nice tutorial at Cotton Spice but in the end I decided to do my own thing. I'm sure there are other "free" tutorials on the internet, search Goggle.

I'm thrilled, as are the girls, with our cell phone and/or camera bags.

Webshots Problems

I have not been able to access any Webshot photos for over 5 days now. I've been asking others but it seems I was the only one .... not so. Finally a friend (thanks Carolyn) took pity on me and looked at the Webshots Blog and discovered:

Webshots blogs and discovered that many, many people are still not able to access Webshots. Lots and lots of complaints. So friend, it's not you or your computer but the area you are in. Here is an email address to get some help or answers. webshots@custhelp.com or customersupport@webshots.com

PLEASE take a moment and send webshots an email. I did and also told them I expect to see a credit on my account.

Thanks.

My Dyson Plays Music

I'm doing the 'woman' thing today ... dusting, laundry, picking up clutter. Now I'm not suppose to run the vacuum according to my Doctor (back surgeon). He tells me "vacuuming is the worse thing you can do". But today I just couldn't wait for DH .... so I decide to run it in the family room, quilt studio and downstairs bath. I'm going along trying to be super careful when all of a sudden my Dyson makes this rattle noise. I thought oh no I've run over something and did a number on the Dyson. I turn it off when I hear this music playing .... I thought what????? DH is always buying gadgets so how did I know he found a radio that was micro in size. What???? then I realize it's the alarm on my cell phone (I set it to remember to turn the crockpot to low). I laughed out loud .... it's Monday and I'm already off my rocker.

I empty out the container and push it into the family room .... what's that on the floor???? It can't be ........yep it's a nail. Funniest micro radio I've ever seen.
