Candy Catcher

CIMG7470

It was filled with Christmas candy but we ate it all. Next best thing is Starburst candies .... yes they're all gone too. Candy doesn't last around here. (sorry it's a little blured) LOL

It's really a Thread Catcher from this Post. The pattern is HERE.

NOTE: I wanted my Candy Catcher to be larger so I cut my strips 3 inches by 8 1/2 inches, all other instructions are the same.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

March 25, 2009

Bad, I've been bad

Saturday, March 20 was National Quilt Day. I didn't stitch or quilt a single item. I've been feeling a little down lately so last week and this week I did some treating .... treating to myself.

I bought myself some stiks from the Woolen Willow Shop. I stopped there after visiting my father in the nursing home. Yes I know you see that jelly roll .... bought it at WalMart on Friday morning for $20.00 .... I'm just curious but the fabrics do seem to be ok.

Now a week or so ago when all the things started with my father I read about Suzanne Earley of MQResources longarm forum having a BIG sale to make room for more goodies. So, of course, I stopped by her Knots and Bolts online Store. I couldn't resist the prices ... beautiful, lovely GREAT fabric.

Now on Saturday I had these coupons for JC Penney's burning in my pocket. I can't remember the last time I purchased clothing for myself .... long long time. About 2 months ago I started exercising again (Summer is coming you know) and keeping my eating in check. I keep my GC during the summer and we live at the North Hills Swim & Racquet Club (my own DD's swam and played tennis there too). We love it and our pool manager, Linda, is the BEST. So DH and I headed to Penney's after our workouts at the YMCA to shop. Unfortunately he didn't find a thing.
I struck gold. Three (3) new swimsuits (size 10), 2 new bras and 3 new workout tshirts (size M). I'm very pleased and thrilled with my goodies.

Everyone who knows me knows I LOVE SUMMER and I LOVE HOT WEATHER ....... bring it on, I'm, ready !

Quilt Studio Cleaned .... SLOB no more

Hi, it's me the Quilt Studio slob .... I wrote about myself seven (7) days ago .... 7 long days ago.

Remember the floor above .... probably not because you couldn't see it as it was full of fabric and etc. that needed to be organized.

After working for 7 days to sort, organize and etc. I had to stop as I was pretty much organized. Every time we went out and returned home I became very depressed seeing the mess day in, day out. So yes I admit I still have some work to do but for now I have to stop and have some fun sewing and quilting. I'll be working on my room as I go along, I promise.

Here are my fabrics all sorted. Bottom 2 shelves hold QS fabrics, top 2 shelves hold other.

All my rulers are organized and easy to reach.

Check out that floor ... CLEAN in my 14 ft long x 8 ft high x 42 inch deep closet. I can now again walk in one side and out the other.

The books/magazines that I decided to keep.

Now I'm not completely done .... these are my scraps sorted into bags of light, dark, children, batik and etc. This is a work in progress. Most are strips for string quilting.

This is just a little of what I actually threw out for the trash guys .... yes my neighbors think I'm nuts. I mean who goes out at 6AM to take a photo in their DH's robe (ME).

These are the books/magazines that I plan to sell, donate, loan, giveaway and etc.

Photo of fabrics and etc. that I plan to donate to local charity sewing/quilting groups.

Here's a short video .......... LET's QUILT

Quilt Closet SLOB, I'm working on it

A couple weeks ago I embarassed myself by writing Quilting Studio SLOB. It took me a whole day to clean up. I promised myself and the world that after Christmas I would clean out/up my fabric/book/magazine/craft closet .... that time has come.
A few photos of the mess, it's a really big mess.

The closet is 14 ft long, 8 ft high and 42 inches deep. Yep it holds a bunch, too much.

Books, magazines and craft side.

AND this video shows my studio (formerly a 2 car garage) with only the closet floor and 1st shelf emptied out ..... where did all this stuff come from ..... how did it get here ... is it going back in the closet .... nope. I'm planning to sort out what I no longer love, donate to various sewing groups and just plain give away to friends or strangers. LOL

OK it's back to work for me ........ Closet Super SLOB.

Quilt Room OPEN, only a Sort-of Slob now

Recently I wrote that I was a Quilt Room SLOB .... well now I'm only a Sort-of-SLOB.

On Saturday while DH wrapped all the Christmas gifts I worked on cleaning up my Quilt Room (the whole day).

My cutting table. Oh boy now I can cut and actually see my cutting mat

Side of cutting table space ... fabric that won't fit in the closet is stacked

Under my sewing table ... now I can use the foot pedal

Side of sewing table cleaned up. More fabric bolts stacked nicely

Christmas fabric in their bags and on their shelf in the closet

No trash by the door

Love seat ... we can actually sit on it now

And toys are cleaned up and put away properly

Portable desk setup ... cleaned off and boxes put away

Prince is all cleaned off and ready to quilt up a storm again

YIPPPPEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I have to admit I did not clean up the closet or all the magazines/books stored under items .... those will have to wait until after the New Year.

Now to keep it this way. I hereby promise to put things away properly and pick things up.

I PROMISE

Christmas Square Dance Quilt

CHRISTMAS SQUARE DANCE

34 x 43

I'm a member of the LEARNING FIBRE ARTS yahoo email group. The owner is Shirley of One of a kind Fiber Arts Blog. Feel free to check the yahoo email group out .... lots of great ideas and techniques to learn.

Recently the Square Dance Quilt was taught as a on-line class. I'm not a traditional type of quilter but this quilt caught my eye and I had to make it. In fact, I dropped everything I was doing (including Christmas gifts) and jumped right on it. Thanks for teaching this class and for holding my hand.

I changed a couple things like my red border is only 3/4 inch wide (finished) and my outer border is 2 1/2 inches (finished). When I make this quilt again I plan to starch my blocks because you see all those blocks have (all 48 blocks) (four) 4 bias edges. To compensate or rather control those bias edges I used Elmer's washable glue instead of pins. This kept the bias edges in check and also gave me 99.6% perfect blocks and the matching intersections are near perfect if I say so myself. I use Elmer's washable glue for lots of things in my quilting ... thank you Sharon Schamber for enlighting us of Elmer's washable glues value.

I thoroughly enjoyed making the quilt even though it's alot of work .... more than I usually put into my quilts. Why you ask? Well I'm mostly a charity quilter (about 95% charity) so I make simple, easy quilts. Although lately I have been looking and liking more complicated construction of quilts .... looks like after 6 years I'm changing ..... that's good.

I'm a little disappointed in my own color selection. I wish I had used a darker border print and I'm not real happy with using white. This would have given it more contrast ... I love contrast. I'm not a fan of using white in my own quilts. Unfortunately I won't have time to quilt it on PRINCE before Christmas rolls around next week ..... I have closed my quilting room as it's such a mess (I'm so bad).

Anyone have a suggestion on how to quilt it. I would like to make a smaller version but don't have a clue how to adjust the measurements ..... I'll have to figure that part out in 2009.

I really like my Christmas Square Dance wall hanging and DH really likes it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Quilt Room SLOB, that's me

I'm a SLOB.

What a wreck my quilting room has become .... I don't put things away, I don't throw things out, I have too many projects going and more .... you know what I'm talking about. So ....

Quilting Room is CLOSED until it gets clean up ........ ugh

My cutting table .........
Under my sewing table

Under my cutting table

Under the side of my cutting table ....

My closet which is 14 ft x 8 ft x 42 inches.

Half is fabric ..........

Half is books, magazines and other

Christmas fabric not put away in the closet

Side of sewing table

Fabric that won't fit in the closet. Plus I have fabric in 2 bedroom closets upstairs.

Love seat with finished charity quilts, quilt tops and units to make into top. Oh and Christmas gifts not wrapped yet.

Where GC have toys. The desk where homework is done by GS. AND Christmas gifts hiding in plain site.

My portable like desk and boxes of stuff from the last time I cleaned up the room that needed to be sorted.

And PRINCE .... projects started, projects to do and he's become a hanger of sorts.

I am a SLOB.
