DH on the Fashion Runway

DH is the Director of the County's Senior Centers. Tuesday was the annual 2008 Senior Expo. The place was packed and lots of goodies being given away at all the booths. Yes I found a few things I couldn't live without. Anyway, one of the highlights of the morning was a Fashion Show by Belk Department Store (DH and 5 ladies).

Here's a few shots. Sorry they are so dark ........ it was fun and DH was a good sport.

A Neighbor Visits

Hello ...........

Well look who came over to visit, Mr. Kitty. Yes, that's his name. He lives across the street at the "pool house" as we call it (big house with a big swimming pool). Now it doesn't really show in this photo but Mr. Kitty has the most unusual blue eyes .... like the waters in Hawaii.

Quilt Fresco (update)

A few days ago I wrote about a Fresco ........ above are our hands from my Wednesday Stitchers Group. They'll be winging their way to France this week.

GD #2

A quick post today .... GD#2 had to have a tooth pulled last Friday. She's getting ready for her braces and tooth extraction is the last step. The baby tooth had to go as the big tooth (as she calls it) was stuck, crooked and painful. Braces T-Day May 18.





Then of course a girl must show off her doggie. Tippy had a trim on Friday too.

Tippy's Birthday

Today Tippy turns one year old ........ gosh where did the time go.

Tippy's family had pizza to celebrate.

Tippy invited everyone to share in one of her favorites .... peanut butter cookies. YUMMY

Then it time to open the presents. Ah snacks, a new pink food dish and some new toys.

Off to Cincinnati to Visit DD#2

Over the weekend we went to visit our youngest daughter who lives in the Cincinnati area. Oh Friday was so beautiful, warm and it was a nice drive over. She owns a beautiful home which sits on a golf course. Now I'm going to throw in some trip photos just for fun.






Oh here are my GrandKitties. Miss Winnie and Mr. Foghorn.



















IKEA just opened in the last month in Cincinnati ...... I LOVE IKEA. Plus DD#2 lives about 5-7 minutes from IKEA. Did you know IKEA has fabric on bolts? I didn't ..... It said 100% cotton but I was a little leary that it could be used in for quilting. I took a long look but in the end decided the fabric was more on the canvas side than quilt fabric. BUT that's not to say I won't buy some of their fabrics next time.






On Saturday I wanted to go to Hobby Lobby. We don't have Hobby Lobby's where I live. They have reduced their quilting fabric selection a good bit but I managed to find quite a few pieces that I couldn't live without. LOL I also ran into Hancock Fabrics .... nope don't have Hancock's here either. Unfortunately the store was a wreck so I didn't stay long and made no purchase.

Then we were off to the TriCounty Mall. Picked up some makeup and did alot of window shopping. We were ready for a late lunch. Now those who know me know that I love pecan waffles from The Waffle House. On this trip I had decided to skip my favorite pecan waffle as DH and DD#2 aren't that keen on The Waffle House.

But DH and DD#2 insisted so I readily agreed ...... off we went. All too soon it was Sunday and time to load up our car and head back home. We had a great visit and miss DD#2 already.

Now the trip home on Sunday was lousy ... it rained, rained and some more rain.


Oh I do want to say THANK YOU to the lady in the dark blue van who pulled up beside of us pointing and mouthing something. We waved to say thanks, she speed off, we pulled off onto the shoulder. Sigh .... DH once again left the gas cover thing-of-a-bob off.

Now flying down the highway I snapped these trees ..... I think it would make a terrific art quilt. Maybe someday I'll get up the nerve to try an art quilt.

Now see this bridge in the distance?

It crosses over the Blennerhassett Island and Ohio River ... once it opens (very soon) we'll be able to cut 20-30 minutes off our travel ..... ah we can't wait.

Quilt Fresco

HELPING HANDS QUILT PROJECT

While reading through a few Google Alerts this morning I came across Nellie's blog, (Teodo Linda of Appunti Patch had sent out an alert). With Nellie's permission I'm re-posting portions from her blog ........... a plea for 'fabric hands' .



I am giving a hand to the project described below from LaGatta blog. She says:

My goal is to get as many hands as possible to compose a big fresco for a friend. In order to get a beautiful fresco I need various fabrics and colors. And so there will be a sort of unit, power and sense of whole coming from this work. Somehow the only freedom is the choice of fabric and color. No matter the quality of the fabric, no matter whether it is new or used, what counts is to understand this project and to participate for the pleasure of doing it.


Instructions:

Take a piece of fabric, a material or a color that reminds of you.

On the back side of the fabric trace the contour of your hand (right or left like you prefer).Then cut leaving from 5 to 8 cm (tad over 3 inches) for the arm.

Do not embroider, do not embellish , do not collect anything. Do not try to distinguish with your name, adding pearls or anything else. I really insist about this !!!!!

There is no need to line it either, it is really necessary that the hand is in accordance with the others.

Put your hand in an envelope and send it to me, writing separately on a piece of sheet your name or your nickname.

There is no need of inscriptions nor confirmations, and to gain more time I leave my address:

Especially do not lose time writing me by e-mail to tell that you want to participate, or to explain that you could. That you have not been able to. It would be only lost time .... Now I wasn't quite sure what a FRESCO was so I looked it up. Fresco (plural either frescos or frescoes) is any of several related painting types, done on plaster on walls or ceilings. So to me this sort of means a wall quilt ...... guess this is my quilting license. LOL

I'd like to suggest that you draw your hand on freezer paper (found in the grocery near wax paper and etc) ...... gives more control. Also allows you to place your hand in the perfect spot on your quilt fabric. As you can see at the beginning my quilt fabric was quite busy but I wanted to highlight the family, beach and ocean ... all my LOVES.

My hand placed exactly on the fabric so that it says who I am.

2008 Ripley Quilt Show

Saturday a quilter friend (Bonnie) and I took in a small quilt show. This group, Jackson County Creative Quilters Guild, has a show every year.

Yes, I took photos of all the quilts. This guild has a host of hand quilters. In fact, of all the quilts in the Show only a few were machine quilted. Fabulous work.

This quilt won 1st Place in the Machine Quilting Category.

This quilt took 1st Place in the Hand Quilting Category.

AND this one took Viewer's Choice ....... it was fabulous. She told me it took her several years to complete. Each embroidery stitch was perfect and the hand quilting was unbelievable. It is a treasure for sure. I'm sorry the photo doesn't show the embroidery thread colors ... they were very vivid.

Quilting Friends

I haven't written for a week. It's been a sad week and a long week.

Jan Jackson, an internet quilting friend, from Quilting Passions forum passed away on March 31. She was diagnosed on March 27 with advanced liver cancer and it had metastasized in her heart. She will be missed. Jan was a great support of Q.P.'s charity work.




Those from Q.P. wish to honor Jan's memory so we have a quilt project in progress for the next 6 months. We'll make quilts for Project Linus and donate them in Jan's memory. The following two (2) quilts I'm donating in Jan's memory.


I'm calling this one "Girl Talk"

And this fleece quilt will be name "Little Fishy's"

Then my dear quilter friend Irene from Canada has been living at the hospital for over a week. Leo, Irene's DH, has been very ill. On 3/26 Leo was rushed to the hospital. Test showed a cyst on his pancreas that is restricting blood flow to the spleen. On Sunday 3/30 he started bleeding internally and vital signs started crashing so they rushed him into surgery. The cyst on the pancreas had ruptured into the spleen, so they removed the cyst and the spleen and they think they have stopped all the bleeding. My dear friend Irene is hanging on. We continue to pray for Leo and a complete recovery.
