Quilt Show in Columbus

Another fabulous quilt show and the vendors of course.

There were so many I really liked but these 2 captured my heart.

This one is all about marbles, yes marbles. I can remember playing marbles as a child ... do kids still play with marbles?

This one is a Christmas dream. Can you find something for every letter of the alphabet?



I took a few photos of the quilts I liked .... not all .... just those that appealed to me.

My favorite is the Ocean scene with boats. Her son painted the fabric from a photo he took then she used all kinds of threads to thread paint. Its my most favorite but also loved many others. You'll see one wholecloth with a little card .... the wholecloth idea was taken from the card. The orange wholecloth ... she designed a pantograph with software (I forget the name of the software) ... the design was inspired by the fabric. Oh and the fishing lady. Gosh I could go on and on about each and everyone of the quilts. GREAT job all around.

Recently the Square Dance Quilt was taught as a on-line class. I'm not a traditional type of quilter but this quilt caught my eye and I had to make it. In fact, I dropped everything I was doing (including Christmas gifts) and jumped right on it. Thanks for teaching this class and for holding my hand.

I changed a couple things like my red border is only 3/4 inch wide (finished) and my outer border is 2 1/2 inches (finished). When I make this quilt again I plan to starch my blocks because you see all those blocks have (all 48 blocks) (four) 4 bias edges. To compensate or rather control those bias edges I used Elmer's washable glue instead of pins. This kept the bias edges in check and also gave me 99.6% perfect blocks and the matching intersections are near perfect if I say so myself. I use Elmer's washable glue for lots of things in my quilting ... thank you Sharon Schamber for enlighting us of Elmer's washable glues value.

I thoroughly enjoyed making the quilt even though it's alot of work .... more than I usually put into my quilts. Why you ask? Well I'm mostly a charity quilter (about 95% charity) so I make simple, easy quilts. Although lately I have been looking and liking more complicated construction of quilts .... looks like after 6 years I'm changing ..... that's good.

I'm a little disappointed in my own color selection. I wish I had used a darker border print and I'm not real happy with using white. This would have given it more contrast ... I love contrast. I'm not a fan of using white in my own quilts. Unfortunately I won't have time to quilt it on PRINCE before Christmas rolls around next week ..... I have closed my quilting room as it's such a mess (I'm so bad).

Anyone have a suggestion on how to quilt it. I would like to make a smaller version but don't have a clue how to adjust the measurements ..... I'll have to figure that part out in 2009.

I really like my Christmas Square Dance wall hanging and DH really likes it.

It will be donated to a local charity.

Welcome Baby Girl

A couple we know have just become grandparents for the first time ....... a lovely baby girl.

I made her an I SPY quilt (of course). I SPY's are so much fun to make.



Quilted on my Nolting PRO longarm with Daisies Galore pantograph. Quilt measures 41 x 46. The I SPY blocks finish at 4", sashing/cornerstones finish at 1", border is 4.5".

I did the off-center 4 patch for the backing ... thank you MARY for the FREE pattern.

About 4yrs ago I was in an I Spy swap and probably received 300+ squares back ... I personally sent in 32 different fabrics. So I can make lots of I SPY quilts. Out of the swap to date I've made 8 quilts and gave a set away to someone for their quilt. It was a fun swap.

Trunk Show

Yes, that's Linda McCuean, 2007 winner of $100,000 with her Bella Quilt.

Linda McCuean gave us a Trunk Show. Oh my it was wonderful. She's been quilting for over 30 years, creates her own quilt designs and quilt patterns, uses all kinds of threads and is self-taught on the long arm machine.

This is one of her latest quilts and for the life of me I can't remember the name. It was Ivy something, maybe Ivy Remembrance.




If you ever get a chance to hear Linda speak run as fast as you can to her lecture. It was a wonderful day.

Quilt Challenge and more

Several months ago Shirley Stutz challenged Marlies and anyone else to make a quilt from this Christmas skirt panel. And this stripe could be used too.

OK are you ready ......... here are the quilts they each made using the Christmas skirt panels.

Prince's First Quilt

I am so thrilled with my Nolting PRO ....... he quilts like a dream and responds on a dime. Hmmm with inflation I guess I should say responds on a quarter.

I'm a nervous quilter who doesn't have a creative bone or the slightest hint of imagination in my body. I haunt other quilt forums like APQS, Longarm Chat and MQResouces to just name a few .... oh the eye candy ..... Then there are the Yahoo email groups like MQSG and, of course, Nolting ..... more eye candy. There are others but the above 5 are my favorites.

I made this little charity quilt several years ago so I put Prince Charming II to work. I decided to try some freehand, rulers and whatever else I could dream up. All of the fabrics are super busy so I knew none of my quilting would really show (boo-boo's wouldn't be seen either). I know they're there but on a galloping horse they aren't seen. LOL

I used some rulers like a curvie one for feathers, straight ruler to make spikes and piano key; I did use school chalk for the C's, loopie pink border and leaves on the black. OK I'll shut up now ........... a couple photos

Prince did an excellent job, he earned a gold star.

Nolting PRO 24" Long Arm

Meet Prince Charming II ............

Back in mid-June DH and I traveled to Columbus, Ohio for the NQA Show. While wandering around checking everything out we (DH & I) found ourselves at the Nolting booth. Dan from Nolting and Mike (new Nolting dealer) from Memory Lane Quilting were showing off their stuff. To make a long story short they offered me a deal I couldn't refuse ....... I'm the proud owner of a Nolting PRO 24" plus hydraulic legs (heaven). And I also got the "M" bobbin ... love how much bobbin thread it holds. I traded my Nolting 18". The wait began from June to August.

On Aug. 24 Mike and Bonnie arrived to set up Prince Charming II ......... they are definitely pros at setups and teardown. I know we're going to have a great owner/dealer relationship. 2PM we were waving good-bye to each other.

Gordon (Nolting) has designed a new side shaft foot for quilting .... it's wonderful especially for SID (stitch in the ditch). The foot allows complete view all the way around .... no part of a quilt can hide from me now. AND it's so easy to thread. I LOVE IT.
